Bokashi bran is crucial for the fermentation process in Bokashi composters. Effective microorganisms found in the bran prevent the decay of biological waste and ensure the process takes place without an unpleasant smell. But how much bran do we use in order to ensure an efficient fermentation process?
The bokashi bran contains beneficial microorganisms (lactic acid bacteria, yeasts, photosynthetic organisms, etc.), which start the fermentation process in Bokashi Organko and prevent the decay of organic waste.
The effective microorganisms in the bran are extremely beneficial. Such microorganisms are also found in various types of food such as cheese, yogurts and wines. The bran prevents the leftovers inside your composter from rotting. Additionally, it ensures that the waste remains in the right condition for it to retain all its energy and nutritional value when going through the fermentation process.
When using a clean Bokashi Organko for the first time, sprinkle 20 ml of the bran on the bottom of the composter. It is important that you do the same every time you add a new layer of biological waste into your Organko. This will help continue the fermentation process.
In general, 1 kg of bran should suffice for about 2 - 3 months of regular use of your Organko.
